About Dr. Epstein

Jonathan Epstein, MD is a world-renowned, board-certified pathologist specializing in urologic pathology. With over 40 years of service as a Professor at The Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, Dr. Epstein has made transformative contributions to pathology, urology, and oncology. His unparalleled expertise in diagnosing complex urologic disorders has earned him national and international recognition.

Dr. Epstein has an extensive body of scholarly work, including more than 1,000 peer-reviewed publications (H-index: 170), 73 book chapters, and 21 authored books. He is a distinguished authority on prostate cancer diagnosis and grading, having authored numerous foundational books and articles on the subject. He has also published many books and scientific articles on bladder cancer and was the lead author on one of the sentinel articles that resulted in the current classification of bladder cancer.

An accomplished speaker, Dr. Epstein has delivered 417 lectures internationally, covering 43 different countries. He has also trained 90 fellows in genitourinary pathology, many of whom have become leaders in the field.
Dr. Epstein is the past recipient of both the Koss Medal for Advancement of Urological Pathology and the Grawitz Medal for sustained contributions to the advancement of uropathology awarded by The International Society of Urological Pathology.

Jonathan Epstein, MD, is the former President of the International Society of Urological Pathology (ISUP) and a founding member of the Genitourinary Pathology Society (GUPS). He is currently practicing at Integrated Medical Professionals (IMP) Pathology, where he continues to advance the field through his clinical and educational efforts.
